What is Thailand ranked in education?

The latest findings from the International Institute for Management Development (IMD) shed light on Thailand’s standing in global education. According to Atthaphon Sangkhawasee, the secretary-general of the Education Council, Thailand’s educational performance was scrutinized in the 2021 IMD rankings. Unfortunately, the results were less than encouraging, with Thailand landing in the 56th position out of 64 countries surveyed. This placement underscores significant challenges within Thailand’s education system, signaling a pressing need for reforms and improvements.

Compared to its regional counterparts in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Thailand’s educational landscape appears even more concerning. While Thailand struggles to climb the global education ladder, Singapore secures a commendable 7th place, showcasing the stark contrast in educational outcomes within the ASEAN region. Even Malaysia, another ASEAN member, surpasses Thailand, securing the 39th spot in the rankings. This glaring discrepancy underscores the urgency for Thailand to address underlying issues and invest in comprehensive educational reforms to bridge the gap and elevate its standing in the international arena.

In light of these findings, it becomes evident that Thailand faces formidable challenges in education, necessitating immediate action and strategic interventions. The IMD rankings serve as a wake-up call for policymakers and educational stakeholders, emphasizing the imperative to prioritize educational excellence and innovation. Addressing systemic issues, enhancing curriculum standards, and fostering a culture of lifelong learning are paramount to propel Thailand towards a brighter educational future, one where it can reclaim its position as a global leader in education.
